Candle Care FAQ

🕯️ Candle Safety & General Care
How do I get the best burn from my candle?
On the first burn, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the jar — this can take 2–4 hours depending on the size. This prevents "tunnelling" and ensures an even burn throughout the candle's life.
How long should I burn my candle at one time?
Never burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Extinguish it, allow it to cool fully, and trim the wick before relighting.
How should I trim the wick?
Trim the wick to approximately 5 mm before every burn. A long or untrimmed wick causes excessive smoking, mushrooming, and uneven burning. Use a wick trimmer or scissors — never break the wick.
Where should I place my candle?
- Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from draughts.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep away from curtains, paper, and other flammable materials.
- Do not burn in an enclosed space without ventilation.
When should I stop using my candle?
Stop burning when approximately 10–15 mm of wax remains at the bottom of the jar. Burning beyond this point can overheat the glass.
My candle has a white film or frosting on the wax — is it faulty?
Not at all! Frosting is a natural characteristic of soy wax and does not affect scent throw or burn quality. It is actually a sign of natural, high-quality wax.
🫧 Wax Melt Use
How do I use Serenity Candles wax melts?
Break off one or two segments of your wax melt and place them in the dish of a wax warmer (either a tealight burner or an electric warmer). The wax will melt gently and release the fragrance — no flame is needed if you use an electric warmer.
How long do wax melts last?
Fragrance life varies by scent and environment, but most wax melt segments will throw scent for 8–12 hours of use. When you can no longer smell the fragrance, the wax can be discarded and replaced.
How do I remove used wax from my burner?
Allow the wax to harden completely, then pop it out using a spoon or melt-removal tool. Alternatively, warm the dish briefly so the wax loosens and wipe clean with kitchen paper. Never pour liquid wax down a drain.
Are wax melts safe around children and pets?
Please take the same precautions as with candles — never leave a lit tealight unattended, and keep wax melts out of reach of children and animals. The fragrance oils used in wax melts are not for consumption.
💧 Room Spray Care
How do I use the room spray?
Hold the bottle upright and spritz 2–3 times into the centre of a room, or towards soft furnishings such as cushions, curtains, and bedding. Avoid spraying directly onto delicate fabrics, polished wood, or painted surfaces without spot-testing first.
Are room sprays safe around children and pets?
Spray in a well-ventilated room and allow the mist to settle before allowing children or pets back in. Keep bottles out of reach of children. If ingested or if there is eye contact, seek medical advice immediately.
How should I store my room spray?
Store upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Shake gently before each use.
🌿 Reed Diffuser Maintenance
How do I set up my reed diffuser?
Remove the stopper, insert the reeds, and allow them to soak for a few hours before flipping. Once flipped, the saturated end will begin releasing fragrance into the room. Flip reeds every 1–2 weeks to refresh the scent.
How long will my reed diffuser last?
Under normal conditions a reed diffuser will last between 4–8 weeks depending on room temperature, ventilation, and the number of reeds used. More reeds = stronger scent but shorter life.
Where should I place my reed diffuser?
Place on a stable surface away from direct sunlight and heat sources, which can cause the oil to evaporate too quickly. A hallway, bathroom, or bedroom works beautifully. Avoid placing near air vents or open windows.
The oil has spilled — what do I do?
Fragrance oil can damage wood, plastic, and some fabrics. Wipe up immediately with a damp cloth. Take care when moving the diffuser — always hold the bottle, not the reeds.
